River Plate's forward, Diego Buonanotte suffered a severe car accident on Route 65 in Santa Fe Province when he was heading towards Teodelina village, where the athlete is originally from, on his father's vehicle. Buonanotte was travelling along with three close friends whom died on the way to a clinic, sources informed.
Authorities informed that Buonanotte's car hit against a tree sided along the route around 6.45am under heavy showers, and that the car could have stroken against a small hill aside the road to then hit a huge tree, as Buonanotte's friends were thrown from the vehicle due to the dimension of the impact.
The player has been hospitalized at the San Martín de Venado Tuerto clinic.
A fire-fighter that was part of the rescue and the first aids supplied to accident victims told reportes that River Plate's player was aside the car fully conscious as Buonanotte told them "I simply lost control of the car and hit a tree", and also expressed that he was driving under heavy showers.
According to sources Buonanotte and his friends were returning from neighbor town of Arribeños, where the four had allegedly spent the night at a discotheque.
First reports indicate that River Plate's player entered the emergency room with a broken humerus, collar bone, a pulmonary contusion as well multiple injuries.
Buonanotte was driving a Peugeot 307 and authorities are now trying to determine if there was a second vehicle involved.
