Turkey mourns death of Hasan Doğan

Turkish Football Association (TFF) president Hasan Doğan has died after a heart attack today at the age of 52. Doğan suffered the heart attack while he was having lunch in the Aegean holiday town of Mugla with national team coach Fatih Terim and TFF board member Levent Kızıl. He was taken to hospital where, despite attempts to revive him, he passed away.
Elected president
Doğan served the TFF as president for five months, having been elected to the role in February. Previously he was vice-president to Levent Bıçakcı between 2004 and 2006. His death comes little over a week since Turkey's superb run at UEFA EURO 2008™ culminated in a thrilling semi-final against Germany. Doğan, born in Kastamonu in 1956, was a mechanical engineering graduate of Yildiz Technical University. He studied English in the United Kingdom, and worked in marketing before founding his own menswear company in 1988. He was also a member of the Turkish Olympic Committee.
Sad news
"This is terribly sad news for Turkey and the European football family," said UEFA's President Michel Platini. "My thoughts and feelings go to Hasan Doğan's family and to our Turkish football friends".
